Preparation is key to a successful study abroad experience. These links will be useful when preparing to live and learn in another culture.

Preparation Checklist

After being accepted to a TLU study abroad program, there are several items to address. Completing these in a timely manner will avoid last minute panic and stress as you are getting ready to leave. Review the checklist below and make sure all are completed.

Apply for TLU study abroad scholarship (applicable only during the long semesters) and any other financial aid. Forms can be obtained in the Financial Aid office. Deadlines are November 15 for spring semester, March 15 for fall semester.
Apply for your passport and visa. Do this early as it will cost more to expedite it if you wait. Check the Department of State website to see what documents are required for entry into your host country.  http://travel.state.gov/foreignentryreqs.html
**You can apply for a passport at the Guadalupe County Courthouse (downtown Seguin by the big pecan).
Confirm with the business office that your student account balance for the current semester is paid in full.
Designate a person who can take care of your banking if needed (in the case of credit checks from TLU, etc.)
Check with the campus health center and the Centers for Disease Control
http://www.cdc.gov/ to confirm vaccinations needed.
Give a copy of your health insurance to the International Education office (be sure you are covered outside the U.S. and that medical evacuation and repatriation of remains are covered). If you need insurance, a possible carrier is: HTH Worldwide at http://www.hthtravelinsurance.com/index.cfm
Notify your credit card company and your bank that you are going abroad and confirm that you can use your credit card and debit card abroad.
If going abroad during the spring semester, check with the Switchboard on a parking permit refund.
Do a degree plan with your advisor and submit it to the International Education Office.
