ANNA, Texas – The Texas Lutheran men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the 2009 American Southwest Conference Men’s Golf Championship Tournament.
The Bulldogs were sixth entering Tuesday’s final round at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna, Texas. TLU’s final team score was a 945.
TLU closed the tournament with its best round of the championships, a 311. The Bulldogs carded team totals of 313 and 321 in rounds one and two on Monday.
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor repeated as the men’s team champion. The Crusaders finished with rounds of 304, 297 and 300 for a final team tally of 901. The Crusaders claimed the conference’s automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III NCAA Championships.
The University of Texas at Tyler finished as the team runner-up with a 907. The Patriots took a one-shot lead into the final round after scoring 304 and 297 on Monday. The Patriots closed with a 307 on Tuesday.
Eric White of UMHB repeated as the conference’s individual champion. White fired rounds of 73, 69 and 76 for a 218 total. He edged teammate Davis Dewald and LeTourneau’s Joel Thelan by three shots.
TLU freshman Chris Hyten (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) moved up the leaderboard with a final round 73. Hyten finished in a tie for 14th after rounds of 78, 79 and 73.
Cory Baker (La Vernia/La Vernia/Eastern New Mexico) and Andrew Long (Seguin/Seguin/Univ. of Houston) placed 27th and 29th, overall. Baker carded an 81 on Tuesday to go with his 77 and 80 on Monday. Long fired a 78 Tuesday after rounds of 81 and 80 Monday.
Erik Peterson (Kelso, Wash./Kelso) and Jacob Mock (Austin/Westlake) ended the tournament in 32nd and 38th, respectively. Peterson scored a 79 on Tuesday to go with his early-round scores of 77 and 87. Mock closed with an 84 after an 85 and 82 on day one.
The conference tournament marked the end of the 2009 for the Bulldogs.
