HSU women roll to 102-58 win at Doghouse

SEGUIN, Texas – The Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls posted season win No. 20 in a 102-58 American Southwest Conference victory Saturday over Texas Lutheran.

HSU (20-5, 16-5 ASC) shot 52.5 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from the three-point line. The Cowgirls made 11 of their 18 three-pointers, and guard Mollie Brawner made seven of her nine shots from downtown.

Brawner finished with 28 points on 10-of-14 shooting. She also added five rebounds and three assists.

HSU center Lindsey Newcombe grabbed 18 rebounds and scored 16 points. Kristen Harris and Haylee Allen each added 17 points. Harris dished out eight assists, and point guard Kenzie Tarpley delivered nine assists.

As a team, HSU collected 27 assists on its 33 made field goals.

TLU ended its season with an overall record of 7-18 and a conference mark of 5-16. TLU, under first year head coach Roxanne Long, increased its win total by seven from the 2007-08 campaign.

TLU received 16 points off the bench from Jennifer Munoz (San Antonio/Brackenridge). Munoz was 6-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the three-point line. Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) added eight points and nine rebounds.

The game was the final collegiate contest for TLU senior Madilyn Caran (Yorktown/Yorktown). Caran scored three points and had a rebound in her last game as a Bulldog.

TLU was held to 27.4 percent shooting overall and 28.6 percent from the three-point line for the game.
