TLU Volleyball goes 1-1 on Day 1 of crossover

ALPINE, Texas – The Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team defeated the University of Texas at Tyler in five games and dropped a three-game decision to No. 12 University of Texas at Dallas on Friday during the year’s second round of American Southwest Conference cross-division matches.
 
The Bulldogs defeated UT-Tyler 25-12, 20-25, 25-23, 24-26, 15-9 and fell to UT-Dallas 25-17, 28-26, 25-14 at the Gallego Center on the campus of Sul Ross State University. UT-Dallas is the defending conference champion.

Against UT-Tyler in the afternoon match, TLU’s Jamie Jahns and Jessica Stetler combined for 31 kills. Jahns delivered 16, and Stetler added 15. Sarah Black contributed 11 kills.

Senior setter Amanda Curry dished out 43 assists, and Blair O’Brien recorded 24 digs. Stetler added 18 digs, and Eden Denny led the Bulldogs with five total blocks.

The victory moved TLU’s overall record to 14-5 and its ASC mark to 11-3. UT-Tyler dropped to 8-13 overall and to 2-0.

Against UT-Dallas, Jahns and Stetler again led the Bulldogs in kills. Jahns recorded 10, and Stetler posted eight. Curry delivered 21 assists, and O’Brien had 20 digs. Jahns and Sagebiel each collected two total blocks.

The loss to UT-Dallas dropped TLU’s overall mark to 14-6 and its conference record to 11-4. UT-Dallas, ranked 12th in the latest AVCA Poll for NCAA Division III, improved to 16-0 overall and to 11-0 in the ASC.

The Bulldogs finish play in the ASC cross-division tournament with a noon match Saturday in Alpine against LeTourneau University.
