Texas Lutheran ace right-hander Brad Orosey moved to 7-0 in his seven starts of 2010 as the Bulldogs downed Howard Payne 7-3 in American Southwest Conference action. On Friday afternoon at a windy Katt-Isbel Field, Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) struck out eight and allowed three runs (two earned) in eight innings of work. He issued just one walk and hit two batters.

The Cowgirls won 9-0 in game one and 3-1 in game two. Lewis (Italy/Italy) retired all 15 batters she faced in game one. The game ended after five complete innings because of the eight-run rule.

Chris Green belted a grand slam in the fifth inning to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 9-5 non-conference win Wednesday over Concordia Nebraska. At TLU's Katt-Isbel Field, the Bulldogs trailed 2-1 before Green's blast over the left-field wall. Green, the senior shortstop from Austin (Bowie), finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI. TLU, an NCAA Division III squad in the American Southwest Conference, moved to 15-5 overall with the victory. Concordia Nebraska, an NAIA team out of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, dropped to 1-14.

The Schreiner University women posted a tournament-low score of 340 Tuesday in the second round of the Texas Lutheran ConCan Intercollegiate Classic and roared to the tournament title by 17 shots. Texas Lutheran tied for third with a team score of 738. TLU’s Angela Aufderhaar took home second after a second consecutive 83 for a two-day total of 166.

Trinity University took home the Texas Lutheran ConCan Intercollegiate Classic title, and host TLU posted a final-round 305 to capture second place.

Texas Lutheran and Midland Lutheran split a non-conference softball doubleheader Tuesday at TLU’s Morck Field. TLU won the first game 2-1, and MLC took the second game 7-2. TLU’s overall record now stands at 6-8. MLC holds a 3-5 overall mark. TLU is a member of the NCAA Division III. MLC, out of Fremont, Neb., is a member of the NAIA.

Texas Lutheran sophomore Brad Orosey has been named the American Southwest Conference West Division Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. Orosey, a right-hander from Houston (Cypress Creek), struck out a career-best 14 batters and did not issue a walk in Friday’s 17-3 win over McMurry.

Texas Lutheran’s Andrew Long fired a first-round 73 on Monday to tie for the lead at the TLU ConCan Intercollegiate Classic. At The Club at ConCan, Long’s 73 helped the Bulldogs to a team score of 319 and a sixth-place team standing.

Texas Lutheran received a first-round leading score of 83 from Angela Aufderhaar to secure a tie for second after round one Monday at the TLU ConCan Intercollegiate Classic. At The Club at ConCan, Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin) posted a 39 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine of the par-72, 5,808-yard course. Aufderhaar leads the tournament by two shots over LeTourneau teammates Leslie Lee and Candice Nishimura, who posted 85s on Monday.

After McMurry won Saturday’s first game 7-0 behind a complete-game shutout from right-hander Dakota Smith, TLU secured the series win in an 8-1 victory with a complete-game performance from senior right-hander Travis Staggs.

Texas Lutheran’s Destiney Jones placed ninth in the triple jump Saturday at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Teammate Ligia Bolivar took home 13th in the pole vault competition at the championships.

The Texas Lutheran men’s tennis team scored a 9-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston on Saturday at the TLU tennis courts. The Bulldogs (3-6) did not drop a game in the three doubles matches and did not drop a set in the singles portion.

Our Lady of the Lake secured a 6-0 victory against the Texas Lutheran women's tennis team Thursday afternoon at the TLU tennis courts. The TLU women fell to 0-7 with the non-conference loss.

Texas Lutheran has added a home men’s tennis match for Saturday. The Bulldogs will host the University of Massachusetts Boston at 10 a.m. at the TLU tennis courts. The Bulldogs (2-5 overall, 1-2 ASC West) will play Our Lady of the Lake University on Thursday. The match start time is set for 2 p.m. at the TLU tennis courts. Both TLU men and women will be in action Thursday against Our Lady of the Lake. Only the men will play UMass Boston.

Texas Lutheran senior Jonathan Hartwell has been named the American Southwest Conference West Division Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Texas Lutheran sophomore Trave’ Glenn has been named the American Southwest Conference Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week. Glenn, a native of Humble, Texas (Nimitz H.S.), finished third in the 400-meter hurdles at the Trinity Open on Saturday. Glenn finished with a time of 1 minute, 9.14 seconds. She was the top-finishing NCAA DIII athlete in the field.

The Texas Lutheran men’s golf team brought home a fifth-place finish from the Mississippi College/Louisiana College Spring Invite, which concluded Tuesday at Black Bear Golf Course. TLU posted a pair of 335s over the two-day tournament and recorded a final team total of 670. TLU sophomore Chris Hyten tied for eighth. Hyten followed Monday’s 75 with an 85.

Texas Lutheran and Southwestern split Tuesday’s non-conference doubleheader as the Pirates took game one 9-5 and TLU won game two 5-3. In game one, Southwestern scored five runs in the bottom of the third to break open a 3-3 game. In game two, the Bulldogs rallied for two runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth for a come-from-behind road victory.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs collected 16 hits in a 12-10 non-conference home victory Tuesday over DeSales (Pa.). The Bulldogs scored in each of the first four innings. TLU scored a pair of runs in each of the first, second and third innings and then erupted for six runs in teh fourth. TLU improved to 12-4 overall and to 7-0 at Katt-Isbel Field.

Texas Lutheran sophomore Brigitte Neumann (San Antonio/Incarnate Word H.S.) tossed a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over the University of the Ozarks on Friday afternoon. Neumann allowed a hit with two outs in the top of the seventh. Kelsey Mefford singled to center field to break up the no-hit bid. Neumann was aiming for the second no-hitter of her short TLU career. She tossed a no-hitter last season against Sul Ross State.

He struck out seven and walked one.

The Bulldogs trailed 5-2 in the third inning and 10-6 in the fifth before scored eight unanswered runs over the final two frames. Trinity rallied for a 12-8 win in the second game.

Texas Lutheran’s Carly Hansen closed the Schreiner Shootout with an 81 and claimed third place in the individual standings. Hansen followed her 88 on Monday with the 81 on Tuesday. Hansen’s 81 was the third-lowest round of the day.

At Comanche Trace Golf Course, the Bulldogs received scores of 88 and 89 from seniors Carly Hansen and Angela Aufderhaar. Hansen sits in eighth, and Aufderhaar is in 12th.

University of Dallas pitchers Joe Zimmermann and Michael Byers combined on a three-hit shutout of Texas Lutheran in 6-0 Crusaders win Sunday in Irving, Texas. Dallas clinched a 2-1 series victory over the Bulldogs. The Crusaders won for the second game in a row and improved to 3-9 overall.

Texas Lutheran senior golfer Angela Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin) has been named the American Southwest Conference Women's Golfer of the Week. Aufderhaar takes the conference's weekly honor for the fourth time in her Bulldog career. Aufderhaar fired a pair of 81st to take the individual title at the Sen. Eddie Lucio Invitational at South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista, Texas. The tournament concluded Monday with 18 holes after 18 holes on Sunday.

Austin attorney Robin A. Melvin is the new chair of the Texas Lutheran University Board of Regents. She began her two-year term in January and will conduct her first board meeting Feb. 26-27 on the TLU campus in Seguin. Melvin has been a member of the TLU Board of Regents since 2003. She takes over the post from Karen Norman of San Antonio.
