11/04/2009 - 
Texas Lutheran Bulldog greats Richard Miller (football), Lili Torres-Ramirez (women’s tennis), Aaron Merhoff (baseball), Craig Saunders (men’s basketball) and Madeline Klasing Williams (women’s volleyball) will be inducted into the Texas Lutheran Athletics Hall of Fame during TLU Homecoming ceremonies this weekend.

TLU also will recognize its Athletics Leadership Wall of Honor Class of 2009. This year’s inductees are the Honorable Edmund Kuempel and Ken and Linda Voges.

Dr. Mark Gilbertson was recognized during Tuesday’s Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball match as the 2009-10 Texas Lutheran Athletics Honorary Coach.

The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC’s 15 member institutions were represented with at least one advisor and two student-athletes.

TLU women's volleyball player Jamie Jahns handled vice-chair duties at the meeting.

The American Southwest Conference has partnered with Clear Marketing Concepts in developing a weekly online video production that will highlight student-athletes, coaches, member institutions, games and academics. The show about the 15-member NCAA Division III-affiliated athletic conference will be called ASC All Access and produced every Wednesday throughout the academic year. ASC All Access debuted on Sept. 16.

ASC All Access can be viewed by logging onto www.ASCsports.org/AllAccess or through any of the ASC’s 15 member institutions’ athletic websites.

Texas Lutheran reliever Tom Hembree (Burnet/Burnet) claimed a spot on the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s All-League Second Team.

Texas Lutheran University was voted by its peers as the inaugural winner of the American Southwest Conference Sports Information Department of the Year award for the 2008-09 academic season. TLU was honored on Monday (Aug. 4) during the annual ASC SID meeting in Dallas.

Former Texas Lutheran baseball players Jacob Kaase and Jeremy Macklin are enjoying current success in the professional ranks. Kaase (pictured on right) was recently promoted within the Texas Rangers' minor leagues ranks, and Macklin (on left) signed an independent league contract last month with the Big Bend Cowboys.

Texas Lutheran senior third baseman/pitcher Jeremy Macklin and freshman pitcher Brad Orosey were each named to the D3baseball.com 2009 All-America Team.

Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) and Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) were joined on the NCAA Division III All-West Region Team by senior center fielder Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian).

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs’ baseball season ended Saturday in a 10-inning, 10-7 loss to the University of Texas at Dallas in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Series.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs face elimination today at the 2009 ASC Championship Tournament Series. After Friday's 7-6 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler, the Bulldogs meet the University of Texas at Dallas at noon today at Mississippi College's Frierson Field. UT-Dallas fell 10-0 to MC on Friday night.

Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM will have live broadcasts of all TLU baseball playoff games from the conference tournament. Pre-game for Saturday's game starts at 11:50 a.m. KWED also will stream the broadcasts online from www.seguintoday.com. Mississippi College will provide live stats.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs opened the 2009 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Series with a 10-1 win over the University of the Ozarks on Friday.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs host the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) in a best 2-of-3 series, starting at 2 p.m. Friday from TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. Game two of the series will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Katt-Isbel Field. Game three of the series, if necessary, will start 30 minutes after game two.

All games are scheduled for nine innings. Admission charges are $5 for adults and $3 kids 10-18. TLU students, faculty and staff receive free admission to all series games.

TLU will have live stats and live audio webcasts (through Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM). KWED 1580 AM will broadcast all TLU baseball playoff games in 2009.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are back on top of the American Southwest Conference West Division.

A year after finishing fifth in the ASC West, the Bulldogs (28-13, 16-5 ASC West) won their seventh ASC West crown in nine years with a 4-1 win over Hardin-Simmons in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Hunter Field.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are one win from their seventh American Southwest Conference West Division title in nine years after defeating Hardin-Simmons 19-11 on Friday at HSU’s Hunter Field.

TLU (27-11, 15-4 ASC West) needs just one win in Saturday’s doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons (23-15, 13-6) to claim the division crown. The twin bill at Hunter Field is set for a 1 p.m. start.

Saturday's doubleheader will be carried by TLU Athletics on Stretch Internet. Live stats will be available, courtesy of Hardin-Simmons, on Friday and Saturday from www.hsuathletics.com.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs will take on the Southwestern Pirates today at 5 p.m. in non-conference baseball action from Georgetown, Texas. TLU will have a live audio webcast of the game, and Southwestern will provide live stats of the contest.

TLU enters the game with a 22-11 overall mark and a 11-4 record in the ASC West Division. Southwestern stands at 15-16 overall and at 8-6 in the SCAC after splitting two games on the road with No. 2 Millsaps. TLU defeated Southwestern 14-6 back on Feb. 17 in Seguin.

The 2009 Texas Lutheran baseball season marks the 60th anniversary of the 1949 Bulldog Baseball Team, Texas Lutheran’s first senior college baseball team. Between games of Saturday’s doubleheader with Mary Hardin-Baylor, TLU honored the surviving members of the 1949 team in a special ceremony. The 1949 team also attended a luncheon at TLU prior to the Saturday doubleheader.

A wild and windy day at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field produced a doubleheader split Saturday between Texas Lutheran and Mary Hardin-Baylor. TLU grabbed the early game 13-4, and UMHB scored the late game win 15-14.

The Texas Lutheran softball and baseball teams each have American Southwest Conference contests today. The baseball team starts the action with a noon doubleheader against Mary Hardin-Baylor. TLU posted a 6-4 win Friday over the Crusaders. TLU will have live stats and live audio webcasts of both games today. (See links below.)

The TLU softball team is in Abilene, Texas today for first day of a softball series with Hardin-Simmons. Today's doubleheader will start at 2 p.m. Sunday's doubleheader also will start at 2 p.m. HSU will have live stats for all four games. (See link below.)

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs completed a three-game baseball series sweep of Howard Payne with 13-3 and 16-8 victories Saturday at HPU’s Don Shepard Park.

TLU moved to 25-2 all-time against Howard Payne with the three victories over Friday and Saturday. TLU captured an 8-7 win Friday at Shepard Park.

The Bulldogs overall record now stands 17-9 overall with a 6-3 mark in the American Southwest Conference West Division. Howard Payne dropped to 11-13 overall and to 4-5 in the ASC West.

Clay Childress hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to lift Texas Lutheran to an 8-7 win Friday over Howard Payne. At HPU's Don Shepard Park in Brownwood, the Childress blast to left-center capped a five-run outburst by the Bulldogs over the final three innings of play. The home run was the third of the season for the junior first baseman Childress (Houston/Jersey Village/Eastfield JC).

TLU improved to 15-9 overall and to 4-3 in the American Southwest Conference West Division. TLU and Howard Payne will play a Saturday doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m. at HPU's Don Shepard Park. TLU will have live audio webcasts of both games. HPU will provide live stats.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs hung on for a 9-8 American Southwest Conference win Saturday night over McMurry University.

In Abilene at McMurry's Walt Driggers Field, the Bulldogs received three RBI from Ryan Nokelby and two RBI and a solo HR from Cody Miller.

Texas Lutheran’s Brad Orosey has been named the American Southwest Conference West Division Co-Pitcher of the Week.

The freshman right-hander from Houston (Cypress Creek HS) picked up the complete-game win Saturday in a 2-1 victory over West Division opponent Concordia Texas.

With a doubleheader split Saturday at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs took two out of three games from Concordia Texas in an American Southwest Conference series.

TLU took game one Saturday 2-1, and Concordia Texas won game two 3-2. TLU captured the opening game of the series, on Friday, with a 3-2 win.

In Saturday’s first contest, Ryan Nokelby (Santa Fe/Santa Fe) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Bulldogs and freshman starting pitcher Brad Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) past the Tornados.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and Concordia Texas Tornados take to TLU's Katt-Isbel Field today for a noon doubleheader. The Bulldogs grabbed game one of the conference series by a count of 3-2. Junior right-hander Travis Staggs tossed a complete game for the Bulldogs, and senior catcher Chris Siniff drove in two runs.

Freshman right-hander Brad Orosey (pictured) is scheduled to take the mound for the Bulldogs in the early game today. Both games of the doubleheader will have live stats and live audio webcasts (links below).

Macklin established four school offensive records in games last Friday and Saturday in a cross-divisional, three-game series sweep of Mississippi College.

Texas Lutheran collected 21 hits in a 20-3 non-conference win Wednesday over DeSales (Pa.) at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field. TLU won its fourth straight game and improved to 10-5 overall. Louis Lee (1-0) tossed six innings and picked up the pitching win.

The Texas Lutheran baseball team hosts DeSales (Pa.) at 2 p.m. today at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. The Bulldogs (9-5) are in search of their fourth consecutive victory after a three-game series sweep of Mississippi College over the weekend. With the wind blowing out at Katt-Isbel Field at up to 40 mph, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs produced runs in all but two innings Saturday in 17-7 and 19-12 wins over Mississippi College.

TLU third baseman Jeremy Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) set a school record for RBI in a doubleheader, with 14. He tied the school record for RBI in a single game, with eight in the first game.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs evened the three-game series with California State-East Bay at 1-1 with a 6-2 win Saturday at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field.

TLU improved to 4-2 overall with the non-conference win.

The Texas Lutheran baseball team hosts Trinity University in a 2 p.m. game today at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. The game is scheduled for nine innings. TLU brings a 2-1 record into the contest after a series victory over Austin College. Trinity is 0-3 after a loss to the University of Texas-Dallas and two losses to the University of Texas-Tyler.

TLU will have a live webcast and live stats for today's game.

Clay Childress homered and collected three hits to lift the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a 4-3 non-conference win Sunday over Austin College.

TLU won the three-game series 2-1. The Bulldogs and Kangaroos split a Saturday doubleheader in Seguin.

The Texas Lutheran baseball team concludes a three-game series with Austin College today. First pitch for the single, nine-inning game is set for noon from TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. On Saturday, Austin College won game one of the series 6-2 before TLU captured the second game 10-0. Each team is 1-1 entering today's contest.

Texas Lutheran and Austin College opened their 2009 collegiate baseball seasons with a doubleheader split Saturday at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field. Austin College won the first game, 6-2, and TLU grabbed the second game, 10-0.

The Texas Lutheran baseball and basketball teams are in action today. The baseball team opens its 2009 season with a noon doubleheader against Austin College. A webcast will be available for both baseball games.

The TLU women and men's basketball teams are in Brownwood, Texas today for an American Southwest Conference doubleheader. THe women's game starts at 1 p.m., and the men's game starts at 3 p.m. HPU will provide live webcasts and live stats.
