Blue Bell Creameries CEO and President Paul Kruse will deliver the commencement address at Texas Lutheran University’s Winter Commencement ceremonies at 3 p.m., Dec. 19, in Jackson Auditorium. Baccalaureate services will be held that morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of the Abiding Presence on campus.

Texas Lutheran University’s Dramatic Media department presents “The Rimers of Eldritch,” an award winning play by Lanford Wilson, Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 at Jackson Auditorium. Performances will be at 2:30 p.m. on Friday Oct. 30 at Sunday, Nov. 1, and at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 30 and Saturday Oct. 31. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and non-TLU students. Admission is free with a TLU ID.

The Texas Lutheran University Visual Arts Department presents an exhibition by Austin artist Virginia Fleck. The exhibit, “Meditation Station: Your Zen Zone,” will be at the Annetta Kraushaar Gallery of the Schuech Fine Arts Center, Oct. 22-Dec. 2. The opening reception will be Thursday, Oct. 22, 3:30-7 p.m. with the artist speaking at 4 p.m.

Texas Lutheran University has awarded its 2009 El Premio Salinas to Steffanie Pantoja. This is the 35th year that the scholarship award, which honors the memory of former student Roberto Lee Salinas, has been given. Texas Lutheran University will host an exhibit by American contemporary artist Steve Brudniak, Thursday Sept. 3 through Saturday Oct. 3 at the Annetta Kraushaar Gallery of the Schuech Fine Arts Center on the Seguin campus.  Brudniak will be at TLU for the opening reception of his exhibit Sept. 3 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.

Do you know what a phlebotomist is? The phlebotomist is a vital member of the clinical laboratory team whose main function is to obtain patients’ blood specimens by venipuncture and micro-collection. The field of phlebotomy has greatly expanded in the past several years, and the role of this integral member of the health care team has recently been brought into much sharper focus. The Center for Professional Development at Texas Lutheran University, in partnership with Condensed Curriculum International, is offering a 90-hour phlebotomy technician program to prepare students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care fields.

Linda Ann Harton Clark, age 65, died suddenly on March 23, 2009 in a highway accident near Seguin. Prof. Clark, who lived in San Antonio, was a faculty member on the library staff at Texas Lutheran University, a position she held for nearly 18 years.  She served both as technical services librarian and as an academic advisor and classroom teacher in the honors and global studies programs.

Texas Lutheran University has named Dr. Edward Thompson III as its new executive vice president and provost, effective June 1.  In that position, Thompson will be the chief academic officer and second-ranking officer of the university, reporting directly to the president.   He replaces Dr. Mark Gilbertson, who has been serving as interim provost following the retirement of Dr. John Masterson last year.

This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, the Holter monitor, electrocardiography, and echocardiography.

Texas Lutheran University recently received a $300,000 gift from alumna Carla Blumberg for its newest building.  The university will name the physics lab and classroom of its new AT&T Science Facility for Blumberg’s late father, Dr. Roland K. Blumberg who was a geophysicist, inventor, banker and 1940s wildcatter.
