At the Bob Mason Classic, the Texas Lutheran women’s basketball team opened its 2009-10 season with a 76-65 loss to Austin College on Friday night in AC’s Hughey Gym.

Texas Lutheran Bulldog greats Richard Miller (football), Lili Torres-Ramirez (women’s tennis), Aaron Merhoff (baseball), Craig Saunders (men’s basketball) and Madeline Klasing Williams (women’s volleyball) will be inducted into the Texas Lutheran Athletics Hall of Fame during TLU Homecoming ceremonies this weekend.

TLU also will recognize its Athletics Leadership Wall of Honor Class of 2009. This year’s inductees are the Honorable Edmund Kuempel and Ken and Linda Voges.

The Texas Lutheran women’s basketball team, coming off a seven-game improvement in the 2008-09 season, is the fifth pick in the American Southwest Conference West Division Preseason Poll.

The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC’s 15 member institutions were represented with at least one advisor and two student-athletes.

TLU women's volleyball player Jamie Jahns handled vice-chair duties at the meeting.

The American Southwest Conference has partnered with Clear Marketing Concepts in developing a weekly online video production that will highlight student-athletes, coaches, member institutions, games and academics. The show about the 15-member NCAA Division III-affiliated athletic conference will be called ASC All Access and produced every Wednesday throughout the academic year. ASC All Access debuted on Sept. 16.

ASC All Access can be viewed by logging onto www.ASCsports.org/AllAccess or through any of the ASC’s 15 member institutions’ athletic websites.

Texas Lutheran University was voted by its peers as the inaugural winner of the American Southwest Conference Sports Information Department of the Year award for the 2008-09 academic season. TLU was honored on Monday (Aug. 4) during the annual ASC SID meeting in Dallas.

For good works in the community and on the Texas Lutheran campus, women’s basketball player Courtney Goodman and football player Ty Palmer have been named the recipients of TLU Athletic’s 2009 Community Service Awards.

Eight Texas Lutheran basketball players have been named to the American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference teams for women’s and men’s basketball.

This year's honorees for men's basketball include: Malcolm Dotson, Jonathan Hutton, Michael Johnson, Josh Scott, Drew Smith and Nate Walton. The TLU women's honorees are Madilyn Caran and Jessica Macias.

For taking a winless program and producing seven wins in her first year, Texas Lutheran head women’s basketball coach Roxanne Long was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Co-Coach of the Year.

Long and her first-year forward Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) were among the individual award winners announced Wednesday with the release of the 2009 ASC Women’s Basketball All-Conference and All-Division selections.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs host the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls and Cowboys in American Southwest Conference basketball action Saturday at TLU's Memorial Gymnasium. The games will be the final collegiate contests for TLU seniors Madilyn Caran, Josh Scott and Nate Walton.

The women's game starts at 1 p.m., and the men's game begins at 3 p.m. TLU will have live stats and webcasts for both contests.

The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m. The women's game will have live stats and a live webcast. The men's game starts at 7:30 p.m. Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM will have the live radio broadcast and a live webcast from www.seguintoday.com. TLU also will have live stats for the men's game.

The Texas Lutheran basketball teams are in Alpine, Texas tonight for American Southwest Conference games against Sul Ross State University. The basketball doubleheader is set for today (Thursday) in Sul Ross State's Pete P. Gallego Center.

The TLU women (6-13, 4-11 ASC) play the Sul Ross State women (0-18, 0-15 ASC) at 5:30 p.m. TLU will have a live webcast of the women's game.

Live stats will be available for both games.

The TLU men (5-13, 5-10 ASC) play the Sul Ross State men (4-14, 4-11 ASC) at 7:30 p.m. Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM will have the live broadcast, as well as a webcast on www.seguintoday.com.

Texas Lutheran’s frantic rally from 10 down late in the second half came up short Saturday in a 77-75 conference loss to Concordia Texas.

Pearl Kafoa’s potential game-winning three-pointer from the right corner looked good when it left her hands, but the shot bounced off the rim with one second remaining. The horn sounded as the Bulldogs battled for the rebound.

The women's game starts at 1 p.m., with the men's game following at approximately 3 p.m. The TLU women bring a 4-9 overall and 2-7 league mark into today's game. The TLU men are 2-10 overall and 2-7 in the ASC.
