Texas Lutheran University is seeking applicants for a full-time Custodian. This position is primarily responsible for cleaning the building to which the individual is assigned. TLU is seeking reliable individuals that meet the following requirements:

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent or two years custodial experience may be accepted in lieu of education
  • Minimum of 4 months of custodial experience
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand and/or walk for 90% of an 8-hour workday. Job requires lifting, reaching, stooping, and bending
  • Must have good oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and employee relations skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Must have a sincere desire to put the customer first
  • Must possess or be able to acquire a valid Texas driver license
  • Judgement is needed to plan and make decisions about work organization
  • Ability to work independently and with other custodians
  • Must be available for evening, weekend, and overtime work
  • Understand and support the mission and strategic plan of Texas Lutheran University

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: cleaning designated areas with an assigned team; scrubbing, dusting and mopping hard floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning rooms and bathrooms, and safely mixing cleaning agents/chemicals.

Texas Lutheran University is seeking applicants for a part-time as needed Communication Specialist. This position is primarily responsible for routing incoming calls and providing information to the public. TLU is seeking reliable individuals that meet the following requirements:

  • H.S. diploma or equivalent. 
  • This position requires at least three (3) months of work experience working with the public, to include receptionist, dispatching or related duties.
  • Ability to communicate with the community, visitors, officers and staff via phone and radio systems.
  • Ability to prioritize incoming calls and push out the necessary information to appropriate individuals in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure during high stress situations and obtain detailed information.
  • Must exercise good judgment in providing for the safety and welfare of students, employees, visitors, and Texas Lutheran University property.
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
  • Effective telephone and oral communication skills, clear concise speaking voice, and the ability to type 25 wpm.
  • Must abide by attendance standards as this is a critical 24-hour operations center.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide service, information and directions to the campus community and visitors. 
  • Perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in our 24-hour operation center. 
  • Enter and maintain accurate daily activity logs to include a variety of communication equipment, including radio console, telephone, fire alarm monitoring systems and monitor university cameras. 
  • Receive emergency and non-emergency calls from staff, faculty, students, and the public requesting service and dispatch emergency personnel as necessary.

Position Summary: The Library Assistant will assist with the day-to-day running of the library focusing on the circulation desk with additional technical services duties.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Circulation Desk
  • Manage the circulation desk
  • Answer student questions and provide coverage for the circulation desk.
  • Process library reserves.
  • Monitor the library student workers.
  • Manage the library ‘s circulation system. 
  • Process overdue notices and assist with the return of overdue books and equipment.
  • Open the library when needed.
  • Monitor any building issues, i.e. facility work requests, etc.
  • Technical Services
  • Assist with the processing of books:
    • prepare new books for circulation, 
    • process withdrawals, 
    • and process change of locations in the catalog.
  • Assist with paperwork for invoices, purchase requests as needed.
  • Monitor and order library supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
  • Education
    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience
    • Previous library experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Basic computer skills
    • Ability to work as a team player

Physical Demands:

Work is primarily sedentary, although periods of standing might be required.  Manual dexterity to perform routine computer work is required. Working conditions are indoors.
