TLU Alumni Board President | Dr. Tracy (Dempsey) Demchuk '85

Dr. Tracy Demchuk

Tracy is a dual citizen of Canada and the United States and has over 28 years of educational and business management/higher education experience.

Tracy graduated from Dripping Spring High School, where she was a Central Texas basketball standout. She was recruited to play basketball at Texas Lutheran College (now university) where after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, she began her educational career, teaching Natural Sciences and coaching, in the secondary school system in Austin, Texas. As the Varsity Volleyball coach, Tracy led her team to a district championship in her second year as head coach. Eager to try something new she moved to a career in business management where she worked for an internationally recognized retailer, as a manager trainer, for 15 years. She worked in two states and five cities in the U.S. and earned more than 50 leadership and performance awards.

Tracy relocated to Vancouver, BC, Canada, in 2001 and returned to her educational roots, working for the largest private post-secondary University in North America as the Director of Admission in Burnaby, BC. During this period, Tracy earned her Masters of Arts in Organizational Management. To round out her career in Canada, she worked for a small start-up university in Vancouver, for one year, where she assisted in increasing enrollment by 50%. Tracy’s final job in Canada was Associate Director of Admissions at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) Vancouver campus where she was instrumental in increasing student enrollment by 468% in three years.

In 2011, Tracy returned to her roots and she and her husband moved back home to Austin, Texas where she continued to work for FDU remotely before joining The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) School of Nursing (SON) in 2012 as a Graduate Coordinator. Tracy used her expertise at SON to upgrade graduate student services and data systems. Since starting at SON she has received two promotions and is now the Senior Director of Graduate Program Advising and Admissions. Recently she was selected as Graduate Coordinator of the year at UT Austin. In 2019, while working full-time, she embarked on a doctoral program at UT Austin. She completed the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education Leadership in May 2022 with a research focus on graduate student persistence. She uses her research and passion for student success to support graduate nursing students as they embark on their dreams of becoming a nurse and/or advancing their careers as nurses.

Tracy’s passion and focus have been and continue to be on assisting individuals to discover and reach their personal and professional dreams through education. She has directly assisted hundreds of students begin their post-secondary degrees and has had the great fortune of being present to watch their dreams come to fruition through graduation.

In her spare time, Tracy enjoys high-intensity workouts, running, lifting weights, and mostly spending time with her husband and nine cats.
