Quarantine and Self-Isolation Protocols for Students

Guidelines and protocols for students who have been exposed or in close contact with someone who has COVID-19

Self-Quarantining for Students Who Have Been Exposed to COVID-19

STEP 1: Notify TLU's COVID-19 Administrative Liaison, Tim Kent, by submitting your daily health screening through the #CampusClear app. TLU's Health Services team will follow up with you to determine if you need testing.

STEP 2: If possible, quarantine off campus at your own permanent residence for 14 days. If quarantining off campus is not feasible, TLU will coordinate with you to move into designated campus quarantine/isolation housing or work with the local health authority to locate an appropriate location for quarantining if none is available on campus.

Students in self-quarantine will adhere to the following:

  1. Watch for fever (100.4◦F), cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms of COVID-19
  2. If possible, stay away from others, especially people who are athigher risk for getting very sick from COVID-19
  3. Students quarantining in campus quarantine housing will adhere to the following protocols:
  • Students will submit the daily screening survey in #Campus Clear each morning
  • Students will self-monitor for the development of any symptoms of COVID-19
  • For students on the campus meal plan, dining services will arrange food delivery in collaboration with Residence Life staff. Residence Life staff will arrange for the student to purchase a campus meal plan for those who have not purchased one.
  • A team of designated staff will be appropriately trained and coordinated by Residence Life to assist students with their personal needs (medication pickup, delivery of hygiene supplies, etc.)
  • Students will coordinate laundry services through Residence Life staff and will wash and dry their laundry during assigned laundry times and in approved laundry rooms. Approved laundry rooms will be disinfected by Facility Services after approved self-isolation laundry times and dates.
  • Students will contact TLU Health Services if there is a need to leave their room.
  • Counseling services, TLUCare, and campus ministry will be available remotely to students in isolation or quarantine as needed.
  • Students (health permitting) will continue academic activities remotely.

Students Who Have Had COVID-19 and Are Re-Exposed

At this time, the CDC does not have confirmed reports of a person being reinfected within three months of initial infection; however, research is ongoing. Therefore, the CDC recommends that individuals who have recovered from COVID-19, but subsequently come in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, do not need to quarantine unless (1) more than three months have passed since they had COVID-19, or (2) they begin to develop symptoms.
