Those interested in working in the field of education are invited to attend an Education Career Fair at Texas Lutheran University on November 20. Numerous school districts with full- and part-time job openings will be in attendance, including Navarro, Seguin, San Marcos, Waelder, Comal, Somerset, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City, Northeast, Judson, La Vernia, East Central, Gonzales, Bastrop, Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD, and St. James Catholic School.

Those who are not certified educators should still plan to attend. “There will be various jobs available—some that require a degree and a teaching certification, while other districts will hire someone with a degree who would be able to participate in an alternative certification program,” says Dr. Donna Kubena, Director of Field Experience and Student Teachers and Director of the Alternative Certification Program at TLU. Kubena will be on hand at the fair with information about the TLU Alternative Certification Program for those who would like more information.

University students of all majors are encouraged to attend as well, since school districts hire more than just teachers. “In addition to teaching positions, there could potentially be other openings within the district that may or may not require a bachelor's degree and/or are outside of a classroom,” Kubena says, noting that schools also hire instructional assistants, tutors, nurses, after-school program attendants, and more.

The fair will take place on Tuesday, November 20, from 1-3:30 p.m. in Tschoepe Hall's Dunne Conference Center (Room 115). Public parking is available at Beck Center. The event is free and open to all.
