What To Do In Case Of...
Below is a quick reference guide for our campus community to follow in case of a severe weather situation or fire.
Severe Weather/Tornado
1. Seek Shelter Immediately – if notified by TLU authorities/E2Campus of imminent severe weather.
2. If conditions permit, TLU authorities may advise you to relocation to a designated shelter area. The designated shelter areas are listed below:
- Alumni Student Center (ASC) – Fireside lounge – conference rooms
- Athletic complex (Field House, Fitness Center, Jones) – interior Jones hallways
- AT&T: go to basement
- Baldus go to the basements of Trinity and Clifton
- Beck Center: to basement
- Bogisch Apartment: to the Beck or Moody Science basement
- Brandes Apartments: go to a bathroom in a first-floor apartment.
- Centennial Hall to interior hallways; Library basement if time permits
- Chapel; Library basement
- Clifton: go to the basements of Trinity and Clifton
- Facilities building; library basement
- Glazener Apartment to the Library basement
- Hahn Hall to interior hallways; Library basement if time permits
- Hein; interior of building away from windows; Library basement if time permits
- Jackson; auditorium
- Knutson Hall to interior hallways; Library basement if time permits
- Kramer Apartments go to a bathroom in a first-floor apartment.
- Krost goes to Moody basement
- Lange Apartments go to a bathroom in a first-floor apartment.
- Langner Hall; first floor interior hallway or basement
- Library go to the basement
- Linne Apartments: go to bathroom in a first-floor apartment; Library basement if time permits
- Moody: go to the basement
- Nursing complex; Moody Science basement
- Renger Apartments go to a bathroom in a first-floor apartment; Library basement if time permits
- Schuech Fine Arts – Wupperman or Ayers
- Seguin Hall: go to first floor lounges; Moody Science basement if time permits
- Steger Apartments: go to a bathroom in a first-floor apartment.
- Strunk Apartments: go to a bathroom in a first-floor apartment; Library basement if time permit
- Trinity Hall; go to the basements of Trinity and Clifton
- Tschoepe Hall – first floor main hallway; Library basement if time permits
- Weston – band hall, interior hallway, or theatre
3. If conditions DO NOT permit relocation. Seek safety in an interior hallway or room on the ground floor away from glass and windows.
4. Remain in protected area until TLU authorities announce “all clear.”
Fire
1. Close the door to the room where fire is discovered
2. Pull the nearest fire alarm – or yell loudly to notify others nearby if the building does not have one.
3. Dial 8000 from a campus phone or 830-372-8000 from a cell phone or off-campus phone to report the fire to TLU emergency personnel OR call 911.
4. If the fire is small (wastebasket fire) and you are comfortable trying to extinguish it, use a portable fire extinguisher if one is available.
5. If the fire cannot be extinguished, or you choose not to try to extinguish it. Evacuate the building and alert others to evacuate.
6. Go immediately to your designated assembly area below:
- Alumni Student Center (ASC) – ASC parking lot
- Athletic complex (Field House, Fitness Center, Jones) ASC parking lot
- Baldus – Chapel lawn
- Beck Center – Beck parking lot
- Bogisch Apartments - area across the street to the Fritz House
- Brandes Apartments - parking lot towards Seguin Hall
- Centennial Hall to sidewalk by South Apartments
- Clifton – Chapel lawn
- Facilities building; library parking lot
- Glazener Apartment – across the street to the grass by Fine Arts building
- Hahn Hall to grass area near Hein Dining Hall patio
- Hein; parking lot
- Knutson Hall to grass area near Hein Dining Hall patio
- Kramer Apartments - parking lot towards Seguin Hall
- Lange Apartments - parking lot towards Seguin Hall
- Langner Hall – Library lawn
- Library – Library lawn
- Linne Apartments – soccer field
- Nursing complex - Moody Hall parking lot
- Renger Apartments – soccer field
- Schuech Fine Arts – Library lawn
