In January, at the 52nd Annual Texas Lutheran University Endowment Celebration, the university celebrated the creation of eight new endowments. Four of those are student scholarships, the other four support academic departments.
The Dr. Bruce and Vicki Bauknight Endowed Scholarship is intended to help deserving junior and senior students who are enrolled in the pred-medical professional program and/or have been accepted to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
The Dr. Norm and Esther Beck Endowment, established by the Becks’ children in honor of their parents, was created to support students who embody a spirit of dedication to excellence in education and a love for TLU as exemplified by the Becks.

The Donald H. Nelson Professorship for Biology and Donald H. Nelson Environmental Sustainability Endowment will support land-based stewardship, research, and education.
The Peoples Student Experience Fund, established by ’78 alums Wes and Karen Peoples, is intended to restore departmental discretionary budgets, enabling students to participate in crucial academic opportunities.
The Roy and Livia Shirkey Memorial Scholarship, offers support to any TLU student, but gives preference to those who are members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Richland Hills, Texas, as the Shirkeys were faithful and beloved members of that congregation.
The VARC Solutions Endowed Scholarship, established as a lasting legacy at TLU by Robin and Craig Hall, owners of VARC Solutions, is intended to support business and education majors in honor of Victoria and Alexandra—daughters of the Halls and both alums themselves (2017 and 2022, respectively).
The Linda F. Wilson Endowed Scholarship in Mathematics and Computer Science was established by TLU alum Dr. Colton Riedel ‘14, in honor of TLU Professor of Math, Computer Science, and Information Systems Dr. Linda Wilson, who mentored him throughout his years at TLU. After earning a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Texas A&M University, Colton is now a software engineer at Google, continuing to carry forward Dr. Wilson's influence in the field of engineering.
And finally, the Anita F. Windecker Endowed Chair was established by one of Windecker’s many former students, Carla A. Blumberg ’71, to honor her memory. Blumberg studied piano and credits Windecker as being one of the biggest influences of her life.
TLU is grateful for the generosity of all of these donors and for the support which will be offered to generations of students through them. If you’re interested in establishing an endowed scholarship, click here.
