More Than a Number: Alum Spotlight on Alexx Rasmus

Alexx Rasmus, who graduated with her Master of Athletic Training degree in 2022, realized early on that TLU’s program was different from others. “TLU’s program is set apart by them wanting to put you in as many clinical experiences as they can,” she explains. “I was lucky to be put in different environments and learn from other athletic trainers, physicians, and physical therapists in multiple settings. Also, you never feel like a number. I was able to gain personal relationships with my instructors and they truly made me feel like they cared about me.”

That sense of caring extended into her cohort, where she felt she truly bonded with her classmates. “At the end of our semesters in program, we’d hang out and have fun before going on our breaks,” she remembers. “It was always bittersweet, but a great time nonetheless! I never felt alone at TLU. I loved the community environment.”

Now working as an outreach athletic trainer for Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, Rasmus is living proof that TLU’s MAT program equips graduates for their chosen career paths. “The program has a great design to help you be a well-rounded clinician,” she says. “A lot of my experiences in the program helped me gain the tools needed to best serve my patients. My professors and preceptors were always such great motivators during my time in the program and always pushed me to be better.”

TLU’s Master of Athletic Training program offers two paths to students: a five-year educational experience in which they are awarded concurrent Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Master of Athletic Training degrees. The second option is for students who already hold an undergraduate degree and can apply directly to the Master of Athletic Training program.
