At their July meeting, the Texas Lutheran University Board of Regents approved plans to begin construction on the Lundquist Student Athletic Center this fall. At nearly 10,000 square feet, the center will house a conditioning and weight room for student-athletes, as well as locker rooms and a visitors center featuring the sports memorabilia collection of beloved sportscaster and TLU alumnus Verne Lundquist, in honor of whom the building is named.
“The new Lundquist Student Athletic Center will make TLU unique among other SCAC membership schools,” says Director of Athletics Bill Miller. “It will create the ‘WOW’ factor for TLU Athletics. No other university in the SCAC will have such a facility.”
The center, which will be located on the north side of campus near the current athletics facilities, will also free up space in the existing Jones Physical Education Complex, allowing for locker rooms to be used by visiting athletic teams. Four construction companies will be asked to submit bids this fall, and a Board Advisory Group for this project will then make the selection. A groundbreaking ceremony is being planned as part of this year’s Homecoming festivities, and construction is expected to be completed by August 2025.
