The Playbook: Student Spotlight on B-Baller Audry Hornaday

Student/Senior Spotlight by Michelle Lopez

Meet Audry Hornaday, a soon-to-be graduate with a sociology degree and a concentration in criminal justice. She’ll graduate with highest honors this May, and after that, she has her sights set on a future in law enforcement with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. But before she trades in her sneakers for a badge, let’s dive into the life of this baller, prankster, and all-around legend.

Audry started playing basketball at age four and got serious by fifth grade. She thrived on proving doubters wrong, especially when playing against boys. One of her most cherished memories is dominating those games while the opposing team’s parents looked on in disbelief. Her high school highlight was leading her team to join the Sweet 16 at the state tournament after a tough comeback from an ACL injury. She has now been a member of the TLU basketball team for two years. After graduation this May, she’ll depart with the same passion and resilience that defined her journey, leaving behind the unforgettable fire on the court.

Balancing school and sports is no easy feat, but Audry’s secret is simple: time management, good vibes, and professor communication. Her pre-game fuel? Either a classic PB&J or a Caesar salad. And nothing says post-game victory like steak and potatoes because champions deserve good eats.

Audry and her teammates are certified pranksters. One of their best? Faking an injury during practice just to send their coach into panic mode, only to surprise him with a birthday bash. And inside jokes? “6’7” is a thing, but the meaning remains a mystery.

Off the court, she pours her energy into coaching with the Spurs Sports Academy, inspiring young athletes and giving back to the community. Her most heartwarming moment? Hosting a youth clinic that opened her eyes to the impact of mentorship.

If she weren’t playing basketball, she’d be on the track or the softball field because, let’s face it, sports run in her veins. Her go-to pre-game ritual includes meditation, her team’s theme song is “Nokia” by Drake, and her favorite movie is White Chicks, which she quotes often. Hidden talent? Country dancing. Yes, really. So, look out for her on the dance floor.

Her advice to future athletes and students? “Don’t let anyone take your light away.”

From breaking ankles on the court to breaking barriers in law enforcement, Audry is ready to take on the world with a little humor and a whole lot of determination. Watch out!
