The Return of the Pride

Fredericksburg, Texas is home to many wonderful things. Vineyards and rolling hills—and some of the best German food around. And it is also the home of the Pride of the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg High School’s award-winning marching band.

The band has chosen TLU as the location for its summer band camps since 2019. This year, the group arrived on campus on Saturday, July 20, and will stay on through Wednesday the 24th. Their days on campus have been packed with marching rehearsals, sectional practices, and music enough to fill the Weston Center—but they also schedule plenty of time for fun and games.

Director Brian Hecimovich, who’s been leading the band since 2021, says the organization likes the fact that TLU is close to home and that they have some personal connections here as well—like Jeremy Kindla and Carla Hulcy, both of whom work with the band, and both of whom are TLU alumni. Kindla graduated in 2021, Hulcy in 2015, both earning their music degrees. “We love the campus. It’s beautiful and very accommodating,” says Hecimovich. “It just keeps getting better and better.”
