30-minute episode features 10 students and their TLU experiences

Texas Lutheran University is set to make its debut on the Amazon Prime Video series “The College Tour,” in October, but viewers can watch the series starting August 8 on TLU’s YouTube channel, TLU.edu, The College Tour’s website, and The College Tour’s app.

Created by award-winning producers and hosted by Emmy-nominated storyteller Alex Boylan, each episode of “The College Tour” highlights one university through the stories of its students. TLU, featured in Season 9, is one of more than 100 universities and colleges that have been featured to date.

“For high school students trying to decide where they want to attend college, traveling to different campuses can be expensive and time-consuming,” said Sarah Story, Vice President for Admissions, Marketing, & Communications. “Through the generous support of a TLU alumnus, regent, and donor, we have partnered with ‘The College Tour’ to bring the TLU experience to prospective students and high school counselors across the country as well as community partners, alumni, donors, and friends of the university.”

TLU’s 30-minute episode features 10 students telling their own story through their voice and personal college experience. Each segment focuses on a different aspect of the TLU experience ranging from campus life and student activities to faculty-led research opportunities, Bulldog Athletics, community involvement, and outdoor recreation in Seguin.

The students starring in TLU’s episode were selected through a video audition process, and filming took place in April 2023. The following Bulldogs comprise the student cast:

  • Brandon Chaney (senior, accounting): The Sights of Seguin
  • Gabriella Beltran (junior, nursing): Being a First-Generation Student
  • Luis Green (senior, business and data analytics): Bulldog Investment Company
  • Will Hicks (junior, English): Living on Campus
  • Annie Johnson (freshman, business and information systems): The First-Year Student Experience
  • Ashley Rizo (senior, nursing): Transferring to TLU
  • Dylan Swanson (junior, business): The Student-Athlete Experience
  • Linden Williamson (junior, biochemistry and integrated science): Undergraduate Research
  • Trinity Murdock (junior, communication studies): Campus Involvement
  • Sam Flores (junior, accounting): Community Service

Made possible by the generosity of alumnus, regent, and Bulldog Investment Company founder Dave Sather, the project is the perfect opportunity to bring TLU to a national audience showcasing the value of a TLU education.

“Being on campus every week and working directly with students, I remain amazed with their level of engagement and involvement,” he said. “Not only do they perform at a very high level academically, but they are also involved in athletics, music, theatre, community service and so much more. It gives me tremendous hope in the future as I get to see leaders forming right in front of me.”

Along with the main episode, Boylan also spent time with TLU President Debbie Cottrell and Associate Vice President for Admissions Alecia McCain as part of the “Coffee with the President” and “Ask Admissions” miniseries. In these brief episodes, Boylan hosts a casual conversation with Dr. Cottrell and McCain to gain insight about TLU’s admissions process, financial aid, life in Seguin, and other topics relevant to prospective Bulldogs.

Season 9 of the “The College Tour,” including TLU’s episode, will stream on Amazon Prime Video beginning Oct. 17, 2023. “The College Tour” is also available on Apple TV, Google TV, and other streaming platforms.
