This Thursday, March 6, the TLU Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds—who’ve just returned from their spring tour—will present their concert, “Wind Dances,” featuring vibrant, energetic music written for the concert band, under the direction of TLU Director of Bands Dr. Brett Richardson. The Symphonic Winds program includes Jack Stamp’s Cenotaph (Fanfare for Band), Bloom by Steven Bryant, and the famous American Folk Rhapsody No. 2 by Clare Grundman featuring interesting treatments of tunes like “Billy Boy” and “Skip to my Lou.” The concert’s second half will bring TLU’s premier band, the Wind Ensemble, to the stage with a program featuring TLU assistant professor of trombone, Dr. Lauren Casey-Clyde, and instructor of trumpet, Professor Dan Orban, on two selections: Leonard Bernstein’s beautiful “A Simple Song” from MASS and Joseph Turrin’s Latin inspired Fandango. Other works include Bright Shadow Fanfare by Nicole Piunno and Omar Thomas’s Come Sunday in celebration of the Black church. The concert will take place on campus in Jackson Auditorium on Thursday, March 6, at 7p.m., and is free and open to the public.
